About MHAWM

Our Mission

The Mexican Heritage Association of West Michigan is dedicated to preserving and celebrating Mexican heritage through cultural events, education, and community engagement. We honor the rich traditions, values, and contributions of the Mexican community while fostering cross-cultural understanding and unity throughout West Michigan. Through our annual festival and year-round programs, we create opportunities for people of all backgrounds to experience and appreciate Mexican culture.
Our History
For over six decades, the Mexican Heritage Association of West Michigan has been a pillar of the Grand Rapids community. What began as a small gathering to celebrate Mexican independence has grown into one of the region's most anticipated annual events. The organization was founded by passionate community members who recognized the importance of preserving Mexican cultural traditions while building bridges with the broader community. Today, the Mexican Festival of West Michigan attracts thousands of attendees from across the region, showcasing authentic Mexican cuisine, traditional music and dance, artisan crafts, and the vibrant spirit of Mexican culture.
